WATT, Matthew Ronald James - Tragically, on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, Matthew collapsed and died of cardiac arrhythmia at age 35 in Langley, BC. Matthew was a devoted and caring husband to his wife, Paulina Emilia Watt (Stachurski) and daughter Angelina Elizabeth Watt. He was son to loving parents Lloyd & Kathy Watt (Champagne), brother to Christopher Robert Watt & brother-in-law to Rosemarie Jardinico Watt, and a wonderful uncle to his niece Elyse Watt & to nephew Jacob Watt. He will be deeply missed by his great-grandmother Beverley Lillyman (Watt), Aunt Shirley Fehr, cousins Richard & Theresa, Aunt Heather Reierson and cousins Ian & Leah Reierson, cousin Jennifer Campbell (husband Jarett Campbell), niece Delilah & cousin Julie Champagne, sister-in-law Heather Cameron Watt, and cousins Jackie Lee-Ann Cameron & Ryan Watt. Matthew is also survived by mother-in-law Izabela Stachurski, father-in-law Jerzy Stachurski, brother-in-law Michael Stachurski, sister-in-law Tiffany May & nephew Jordan Stachurski.
Matthew grew up in the Walnut Grove area of Langley. He played and loved all sports but excelled at baseball. Matthew represented Canada at the Junior Little League World Series in 2001. He won every District and Provincial Little League title from the age of 8 through 14 before joining the Langley Blaze organization, where he declined the San Diego Padres' offer to draft him to pursue other interests after high school. Matthew graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 2005 and soon after started to work in the video gaming production industry for a few years. He later found a second home at Weyerhaeuser in 2019, where he was an important asset and hard-working team member to his many friends and colleagues.
Matthew had a welcoming, beautiful smile which put people at ease, allowing him to get along with everyone. In addition, Matthew's eyes drew you to him, leaving people feeling understood because he truly listened to what you had to say. People that knew Matthew knew that he enjoyed life, his friends, and especially his family, whether at work, church or social gatherings.
Matthew was spiritually influenced by his late Grandmother Kay Champagne, and found salvation and accepted God into his life in his late 20s. Pastor Andrew Beunk, a dear friend and mentor, baptized Matthew in 2017 at the New Westminster Christian Reformed Church. Matthew found fellowship and comfort amongst the congregation there. In late 2018, Matthew met Paulina, who would later become his true love he would marry on July 30th, 2021. Paulina & Matthew were perfect for each other; they complimented and supported each other in their spiritual journey and walked with Christ together. They experienced a glimpse of heaven and felt blessed at the birth of their beautiful baby daughter Angelina on June 16th, 2022. Matthew enjoyed being a husband and adored being a father to his "little angel" and strived to protect and spend as much time as possible nurturing his new little family.
Matthew felt closer to God and at peace when spending time outdoors. He loved golfing & fishing with his father, Lloyd and brother, Christopher and hiking with his wife, Paulina. Matthew was a culinary enthusiast and also enjoyed cooking and loved talking with his Mom, Kathy daily, often sharing what he was making for dinner. But what's more, Matthew cherished and thrived at being a Dad to Angelina and husband to Paulina. His lack of presence with us today is a profound loss and void; however, we all hope we can move forward in life as we remember the good times, positive impact, and the great blessing Matthew had been to us in our lives.
