Maria Docolas

Maria Docolas (nee Giannakopoulou) was born in Mesochori, Messenia, Greece on February 2, 1934. In April 1956, at the age of 22, Maria was the first in her family to leave Greece for Montreal, Canada with hopes and dreams for a brighter future for herself and her family. Three years after arriving in Montreal, on June 13, 1959, she married her beloved Kosta. Maria and Kosta had 3 children (Niki, Georgia, and George) who absolutely loved and adored their parents.

In 1972, Maria and Kosta moved their family from Montreal to Vancouver, finally settling in Ocean Park, Surrey BC.

Maria was the cornerstone of her family and her community. She warmly welcomed family and friends into her home with open arms. Maria and Kosta built a happy life together filled with love, laughter and joy. They worked tirelessly and never complained. They travelled the world and often returned to Greece with their children and later, grandchildren.

On November 1, 2022, Maria passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Maria will always be fondly remembered for her courage, strength, wisdom, kindness, generosity and love for everyone. She was an inspiration and a role model to all who knew her.

Maria was predeceased by her beloved Kosta who passed away earlier this year. She is lovingly remembered by her children Niki (George), Georgia and George (Linda), her grandchildren Kristina (Fr. Costa), Costa, Nico (Brittany) and her great granddaughter Marianna.
