Johnathan was the first grandson on both sides of the family.
From grandparents, to aunts, uncles and cousins, he was loved by so many.
From an early age, Johnathan was involved in sports. Soccer was his first kick, followed by baseball, lacrosse, and football. When he started playing rugby, he had found his true passion. Later Johnathan enjoyed heavy weightlifting constantly setting personal bests. Johnathan’s love for the outdoors was obvious from the start. From dirt biking to camping, from fishing to hunting, the outdoors was where he enjoyed his time the most.
Johnathan was enrolled in the French immersion program at Peace Arch Elementary and continued his French studies at EMS, graduating with honours. He was able to act as translator when he and his Dad travelled to Paris at the end of Grade 11. Johnathan would sometimes read a French novel or watch a French TV program in order to not lose his acquired skill set. When Johnathan was young, we worried that his English might suffer, that was quickly put to rest by all the reading he would do on his own time.
Johnathan was a loving big brother to Jordan. Johnathan always had his brother’s back. Like most brothers they fought, but Johnathan believed that this was his way to teach Jordan how to stand up for himself. They would do all sorts of activities together, such as cooking for each other which often resulted in Jordan cleaning the mess up. This was another lesson Johnathan felt inclined to teach his little brother. Between the two of them, they often glanced across the dinner table using their silent language, critiquing Mom’s cooking.
Johnathan was everything a parent could ask for. He was loving, affectionate, brilliant, handsome, supportive, kind, goal driven, honest, and polite. Johnathan was fiercely independent. Johnathan brought an immeasurable amount of pride and joy into our lives. We are heartbroken. Devastated. There is a permanent hole in our hearts that will never be filled. It hurts to feel tempted to smile with so much sorrow.
His room was his domain and even though the cleanliness left something else to be desired, he was extremely organized, filing his papers in his desk. He had a tendency to hold on to things, like his paycheques from his first job. His detailed notes on investment strategies and lessons learned from previous trades was remarkable. He took meticulous notes and would have self affirmations as learning lessons.
Johnathan loved travelling with us to visit family back east and in Florida. Johnathan would have countless air miles had he accumulated them. Johnathan loved the Caribbean cruise we took in 2008 with one of his favourite stops being the Virgin Gorda.
The love we have for Johnathan, reflecting on the wonderful memories of the past, along with the support of our friends and family will allow us to hopefully cope through these unimaginable times. Around every corner there is a constant reminder of how lucky we were to have him in our lives, how blessed we were to call him our Son and how we will never take time for granted again. If only we knew that was our last hug from him, we never would have let him go.
In writing this we feel empty. Lost. Unsure of the future ahead. Johnathan will be dearly missed, but Johnathan William Hill will never be forgotten, and will ALWAYS be LOVED and remembered.
We LOVE you our dear sweet Johnathan.
