My Dear Beloved Aunt Pat - Our formative years were blessed with your larger than life persona.  I can't recall a visit to your home that wasn't filled with song and laughter.  You and Uncle Jimmy were my favourite Uncle and Aunt - even when I found out that we weren't related in any way!!  The true nature of our relationship was one of joy and admiration ... Aunty Isa, you will live in our hearts always and forever. Your Scottish family love and adore you so much x You're energy and enthusiasm in life was an inspiration to us all x You touched so many hearts, and as the saying goes....once seen never forgotten. We have so many happy memories of joy and happiness spent with you, I can only imagine you are happy to be back with your sweetheart Uncle Tye and Gordy, and your mum and dad, brother and sisters. Looks like we lost our one an only - Auntie Pat.  We have a lifetime of memories as her extended family.  She was always a star.  Like the time she rushed my brother to the hospital when a hallowen fireworks blew up in his face.  Or the time she drove through a stop sign while talking in Scots with my Scots mother at her side.  Or the times we spent with her kids doing wild things in Horse Shoe Bay.  You always felt safe and well entertained when Auntie Pat was around and singing her lungs out in the car while driving in traffic.  Or being so down to earth and sincere on the phone, saying "Auck eye" rather than 'yes' like the rest of us.  Then too there was the song my brother Bruce confesses he hates.  She would sing it to me for as long as I could remember. It went, "A Gordon for me, a Gordon for me, if it isna a Gordon he's nae good to me."  It was sung for the Gordon Highlanders but also apparently for her son Gordon and for myself with the same Christian name.

The CBC news tonight said that 1,000,000 children have been born from the War Brides.  That would be the Walker family: Gordon, Gary, Wilma, Wanda. And three more from my mother who was on the same ship as Pat Walker back in 1945.  I asked my mother what it was like and she said, "We thought we were in Heaven.  They served us 3 Canadian meals per day for the whole trip across!"  Their surprises had just started however when they met once again the men they had married and not seen for 2 years in Scotland.  Those men were now civvies and under very different circumstances than during the war.  Look how long they were married, some 65 years plus, to the strangers they had been wooed by when in uniform.  Love is blind (but apparently resolute and stalwart amongst the Scots Lassies).  Say hello to Mum when you enter Heaven's Gate singing, "Knocking on Heaven's door..."

Pat made me feel welcome the first time I met her on Capilano Road House. She had a sweet loving heart and amazing spirit. I am sorry for the families loss. You have all been so blessed to have had her in your lives.

Well Pat I never met you but you look like an angel with that smile as sweet as sunshine. Say hi to everyone for me and one day we can have chinwag in the clouds. God bless you and all the family. Safe journey my lovely. Xxx

Aunty Pat - when I think of you I think of how you could make us laugh by laughing at yourself and of your self-less generosity and of how you were a "glam girl" before it was part of popular culture.  Pat, you were a friend to my Mom and as a lifelong friend you became a part of our extended family, and an  important  part of our family history.  You are thought of often by all of us.
