Gordon passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday June 5th 2021 at Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge in Richmond, B.C. at the age of 92 years.
Gordon was born the eldest of six children, on September 15th, 1928 at Grace Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. to parents Gordon and Kathleen Leversage of Richmond. The family moved to Prince George in the late summer of 1929 and then returned to Richmond in the early summer of 1941.
Gordon obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1954 and worked as a dedicated CA for 59 years until his retirement at age 85 in 2013. His career began with a public accounting firm in Vancouver and he was later transferred to Kelowna.
On October 15th, 1949, Gordon married Irene Good and soon after was transferred from Kelowna to Creston for what was expected to be a two year term. The two years stretched to twenty-seven years and in Creston Gordon and Irene raised their three children, were active in the community and made many friends.
In 1976, Gordon and Irene returned to the lower mainland where they lived in Burnaby, Richmond, Ladner and Vancouver. In 1978 Gordon formed his own public accounting firm in Richmond and managed the firm until his retirement in 2013. In 1994 Gordon was awarded the FCA designation (Fellowship) for exceptional service to his community.
Gordon worked hard and was always willing to help anyone in any way he could. When someone phoned Gordon's home and he couldn't be found, Irene's usual response was “I think he slipped to the office.” In Creston, his office was a short distance from home so he didn't have far to “slip” and he certainly did a lot of “slipping.” Always an optimist, Gordon's interests included fishing and he played basketball too. He was a good cook and his four-course breakfasts are still remembered fondly by family. This past October 15th, Irene and Gordon celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.
Gordon was not one to seek the limelight and happily worked in the background. The foundation of his life was his faith in God, and he chose to seek the approval of God rather than the recognition of man.
Gordon and Irene's home for the past five years has been Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge in Richmond. Gordon was predeceased by Irene on January 16th of this year, one of many casualties of COVID-19. Gordon and Irene were both diagnosed with COVID in December 2020. Over the last few years Gordon fought off pneumonia numerous times but never fully recovered from his one bout with COVID. He required oxygen and was very fatigued most of the past five months. Gordon would not agree with the premise that COVID is no worse than the flu. Gordon and Irene's family thank the staff at Fraserview for their care of mom and dad over their final years.
Gordon is survived by three siblings Eileen Good, Bernice Douglas and Ivan Leversage, his children Gordie (Laurel), Joan (James), Jill (David), “adopted son” Paul Chiu, 8 grandchildren: Tyler (Trista), Kirstin (Adrian), Brett, Kerri (Monty), Alison, Linsey, Duncan, Mitchell, 7 great grandchildren: Piper, Dane, Zara, Chet, Hazel, Maeve and a little great granddaughter who is now only weeks away, and many nieces and nephews.
