Ella Watt (nee Sukert) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on April 6, 2024. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Gordon Watt. As well as her younger brothers Emanuel and Arnold Sukert and older sister Lillian Resch.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter Deborah and her adored grandchildren Chelsea and Cameron. She was born in Glidden, Saskatchewan, on January 30, 1930. But the family moved shortly after to join the growing orchard community of Oliver, BC.
Ella moved to Vancouver after highschool to seek a new life and career. She landed a job as a Stenographer at the Unigard insurance company and quickly moved up to the claims department. When given the golden handshake after 35 years, she was not ready to retire and was scooped up by Ernst & Young Consulting firm, who she worked for until she finally retired 15 years later.
During this time she met and married Gordon Watt in 1952. They purchased a home in Arbutus ridge, where they raised their only daughter and lived until 1992.
Ella loved being a “working girl,” and was involved in many extracurriculars, including the Girl Guides of Canada. She became “Snowy owl” to spend more time with her daughter and became the Vancouver District Commissioner, staying with the Girl guides long after Deborah had moved on.
Up until her passing, Ella was a wealth of information, who loved music and spending time with friends, but most importantly, her family.
The last 8 years of her life were spent at the Waterford retirement home where she was the honorary meeter and greeter for new residents. She was devoted to writing for their community newsletter, making sure to keep the residents up to date with all the latest trends and the history of the province. Ella was a huge part of the social aspect of the retirement home that she referred to as “Camelot.”
A celebration of life for Ella will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 28th Ave, Surrey, BC V4P1P3.
