Dave was born August 18, 1941 in Venn Saskatchewan. The family moved to Yarrow BC at the age of 3 where the family farmed. This taught Dave to work hard and gave him the traits that taught him how to stand in good stead through his life. Dave attended public school in Upper Sumas Superior and graduated in 1960 from Abbottsford Senior High. His love of learning led him to his career in surveying.
In 1965 Dave and a friend were headed on a holiday to NYC. On route, they stopped in Regina where he met Diane. The love story began and one year later they were married on October 29, 1966 in Regina Saskatchewan. Back at home in BC they started their family while Dave attended BCIT. In 1969 the family moved to Chilliwack BC where they continued their family. Dave had started his surveying career with Underhill & Underhill in early 1960’s. While attending BCIT he was awarded a $250.00 Crown Zellerbach Canada Foundation bursary for second-year studies in surveying technology. Dave worked and articled under Bill Tunbridge. In 1973 they moved to Langley BC where Dave was employed with Isaak & Associates. While employed there Dave received his commission as a British Columbia Land Surveyor #543 on May 12, 1976. Dave then joined Cameron and Associates until 1979 when he started his own company Dyck & Associates. While Dave was running this successful company he suffered a heart attack in 1993. In 1994 he had a quadruple bypass surgery. Dave sold the company in January 1997. Seven years later Dave began another successful company South Fraser Land Surveying. He sold the business and retired midsummer 2016.
Dave was a loving, caring, generous man. He was very knowledgeable, had a wealth of information which he loved sharing. He had a wonderful sense of humor. His hobbies were woodworking, reading, especially history, Sudoku and gardening, most of all his apple trees.
During the times of raising their family, they did lots of camping with family, BCLS conventions, and many trips to Hawaii for Dave and Diane. The dream vacation was in 2016 when they traveled across Canada with their 5th wheel to the Maritimes. Although Dave loved puttering around the acreage, the work load was becoming too much for him. They made the decision to sell and purchase a townhouse in Langley, and he was happy with their new home.
His diabetes and heart disease progressed, but Dave never gave up. He could still produce the same cheery grin; he had an indomitable spirit. He will be sadly missed by all whose heart he touched.
Thanks to all Dave’s Physicians, nurses, paramedics, family and friends for your continued support over the years.
