Allen passed away peacefully in White Rock, BC with his loving partner, Lynne Patzel, by his side. Born in Alloa, Scotland in 1935, he immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s. He is survived by three daughters. Brenda (Dennis) Boldt, Audrey (Mark) McCauley and Belinda (Todd) Giles. His six grandchildren are Aaron, Halley, Delanie, Emma, Heather and Vanessa. Allen is also a great grandfather. He had also made numerous trips back to Scotland to visit his many nephews and nieces.
As a young man, Allen trained at Agricultural College in Scotland. Allen moved to BC, Canada and worked farms on Galliano Island and in Richmond. Later, Allen took on jobs as a fireman, disc jockey at a radio station, selling real estate on the Gulf Islands and eventually settling in as an advertising sales manager for a national magazine.
Many hobbies kept Allen busy, including fishing, flying ultra light planes, curling, golf and later on in life, being a mainstay on the White Rock promenade playing his accordion. Allen was very active in the community as a long time community policing volunteer for the White Rock RCMP detachment as well as reciting Robbie Burns “Toast to the Haggis” for Burns Suppers all over the Lower Mainland. His passion for music was a constant and he played his accordion often at the Elks Hall, pubs/restaurants and at Farmer’s Markets. In the last few years, he started to compose and publish songs and actively participated in many online communities for Scottish music.
Allen was a charming, likeable, talented man who naturally commanded any room with his presence. He will be greatly missed by his family as well as many old and new friends. A private gathering with family and friends to celebrate his life was held on Saturday June 24, 2023.
