Albert Richard Phillips passed peacefully on October 9, 2019, 3:10pm. His family and closest friends surrounded him for his final days. Papa will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Margaret, sister Eileen, sons Rick (Vicki), Brian (Shannon) and Randy (Marlene), daughter Jo-Anne (Bob), grandchildren Christie (Jeff), Terra, Elissa (Dan), Amy, Daniel, Bridget (Steve), James (Jessica), Keith (Klaudia), Dane (Tamara) and Kent, and eight great grandchildren Caitlyn, Bill, Adam, Madelyn, Emma, Kyle, Norah and Matilda. From a young age, being in the outdoors fishing and hunting brought him joy. He taught his kids and grandkids how to fish. Al was a hard worker; he spent most of his working days in the Steel Workers Union. Later in life, he spent time traveling and golfing, and you could always catch Papa capturing family memories on camera. He learned to use the computer to email photos and look up the football score. Al will be remembered for his love for his family, his gentle smile, and his smoked salmon.
Each thanksgiving we will put extra bacon on the turkey for Papa! We can hear him saying, “It is what it is” and “the fish are where you find them”! We will cherish the memories he leaves behind, knowing he will be watching from above in his jeans and favorite plaid shirt.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Laurel Place Hospice, 9688 137A Street, Surrey, BC V3T4H9.
