Born 1922, Oct 20th near Canton, China, Ah Fon moved to Borneo at a young age and later migrated to Canada in 1976.
Ah Fon was 19yrs old when the Japanese took control of Borneo from the British. His knowledge of English language and Math, mostly self-taught, gave him the advantage of prime jobs under the Japanese. He was reading maps and drawings, performing calculations and fabricating parts as they repaired damaged oilfields.

His famous words to anyone watching him build/repair something was – “you can’t rush good work” (in Chinese), implying Patience!
After the war, Ah Fon worked for Shell, progressing from Carpentry shop, Machine shop, eventually to Safety Department where he retired with 31 years service, to move to Canada.
Ah Fon is survived by his 5 children – Lucy, Vincent, Edward, Michael and Simon,
Nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
