Ginny was born on October 1, 1951, and grew up in Minnesota, graduating from Wayzata High School in 1969 and College of St. Theresa in 1973. She then moved to Illinois, where she raised her children, Brian and Daniel, in the town of Naperville. During that time, Ginny was a passionate cheerleader at her sons’ baseball, basketball, and hockey games and volunteered with the Naperville Little League. In 2003, after many cold winters, Ginny retired in Surprise, Arizona with her husband and best friend, Robert (Bob) Pledger. Her retirement years were spent focused on the things she loved.
Ginny loved to travel. From trips spanning 49 states to cruises in the South Pacific, train rides throughout Europe, hikes in Australia and New Zealand and even a trip to the Panama Canal, Ginny saw the world with her best friend at her side. She loved her family. Ginny took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and celebrated many of life’s greatest moments with each of them. Ginny was a talented artist and spent many happy hours crafting with her friends at the Sun City Grand Glass Arts Club. She was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed seeing new ballparks when traveling to a new city. Ginny also loved all animals, especially cats and dogs.
Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Bob, sons Brian (Marla) Zatloukal and Daniel (Jacquelyn) Zatloukal, stepchildren Jeffrey Pledger, Stephen (Valerie) Pledger and Kelli Pledger. Additionally, she will be missed by her grandchildren Taylor (Ashley) Kirkpatrick, Mark, Chase, Mya and Hilde Zatloukal, as well as her sister Roberta (Ed) Sye and brother Martin Carlston. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Rosamond Carlston, brothers Bruce, Steve and Larry Carlston, and her beloved pets Tippy and Fat Cat.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 22, 2023, at 10 AM at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 West Bell Road, Surprise, AZ 85374.
