Dick was a devoted husband of 53 years and proud father and grandfather and is survived by his wife, Penny Pfeiffer (Soderberg), sons Matt, Ryan (Wife Kelly, Daughter Addison, Son Connor), and Derek.
Dick grew up in Rolling Meadows, IL where he worked for the US Postal Service and retired in 2002. Dick was a graduate of William Fremd High School and was awarded an Associate degree from Harper College in Palatine, IL. He spent most of his time coaching various sports teams for his sons, enjoyed golfing, and bowling. After retiring, Dick and Penny moved to Surprise, AZ where they split their time between Arizona and Illinois.
After moving to Sun City Grand in Surprise, AZ, Dick was an active participant in the softball, golf clubs. Dick enjoyed golfing over the past ten years with many of the same group of guys and even after his health declined, would continue to meet for other outings and regular breakfasts.
Dick will always be remembered for his love of Chicago sports teams and the Arizona Cardinals. His sense of humor was one which allowed most around him feel free to be themselves. He always wanted to know how the grandkids were doing with all their activities and sports, how work was going for his kids, and what the weather was like in Chicago.
For many years, Dick had Multiple Myeloma which was in remission but was always grateful for all the doctors who helped him through the struggles of having cancer. Dick passed away from complications after open heart surgery.
