Kenneth Gordon Sherman was born on January 10, 1921 in Lyndon Station, WI to Ivan Ashley Sherman and Gladys Jeanette (Bump) Sherman and passed away on November 22, 2014. He had two sisters and was raised in Madison, WI. Ken was a good student who was always fascinated with airplanes and flight. While attending engineering classes at the University of Wisconsin, he also worked on his pilot's license. He soon became an instructor pilot, joined the Navy and taught aerobatics to Navy and Army pilots. One of his non-military students was a young coed, named Helen Teresa Willi. They soon fell in love and were married on June 3, 1944. Later that year, Ken went to work for American Airlines - a career that lasted 37 years and saw him flying a range of aircraft, beginning with a DC-3 and ending with a Boeing 747. He and Helen raised four children in the Chicago, IL area and moved to Mesa, AZ in 1981. In 2005, they moved to Peoria, AZ. Ken lost his beloved wife of almost 62 years in 2006. He has shared the years since then with his dear companion, Helen Benner. He is survived by his 4 children: Ken (Janet) Sherman - Boise, ID; Kathy Dugan - Surprise, AZ; Mary Helen (Bob) Larson - Spokane, WA; Bob (Susan) Sherman - Bentonville, AR; 6 grandchildren: Steve Dugan, Barbie Dugan, Christina Cozzaglio, Kenny Sherman, Bobby Larson, Katie Larson; 7 great grandchildren and his companion, Helen Benner. Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Sierra Winds, 17300 N. 88th Ave, Peoria, AZ.
