LOBERG, Karen, of Surprise, AZ ( formerly Henderson, NV; Mission Viejo, CA; and Crystal Lake, IL) passed away peacefully on August 20,2021, surrounded by her two loving daughters.
Karen was born on April 16, 1944, in Storm Lake, Iowa to Julian L. and Ella K. (Christianson) Anderson. She was the oldest child in the family with a sister and a brother. She married John B. Loberg on March 10, 1963.
Karen was a graduate of Augustana Academy in South Dakota and then attended Waldorf Junior College, Iowa State University, and Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (MBA). She had a successful career in purchasing and supply management. She started her career as a buyer of food and flavoring ingredients at Jewel Companies, Inc. She then joined Lyphomed Inc. as a senior buyer for the injectable pharmaceutical device business. Lyphomed was acquired later by Fujisawa Pharmaceuticals, and in 1996 Karen was recruited by Teva Pharmaceuticals (an Israeli American company specializing in generic drugs) to be a director of global purchasing and supply. Karen was an avid traveler, and in her work she visited many countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She retired in 2009 and during retirement, she was an active volunteer and lay leader in the Lutheran church (ELCA denomination). Throughout her life, she was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage and, with her husband John, was devoted to sharing and passing on many Norwegian-American traditions.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband John Loberg, and by her parents Julian and Ella Anderson.
She is survived by daughters Anita (Steven) Scheel and Terri (Kelvin) Loberg-Kai; grandchildren Tyler and Austin; step grandchildren Nick, Maiah, Christopher, Reilly, and Kelsey; and siblings Judith (John) Willetts and John (Megan) Anderson. She will be dearly missed by all.
