BUSUTTIL, John Joseph, Sr., of Surprise, AZ, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021. He joins his wife Dolores who passed a day short of him, ten years ago, and his daughter Cathy Green who died too young at 52. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Leonard 95, 3 children John J Busuttil, Jr, Steven J Busuttil, MD and Nancy Kolcun. He also leaves 7 grandchildren. In addition to his surviving sister Dorothy, John grew up with four other siblings Sylvia Harmon, Vincent Busuttil, Theresa Bolin, and Mary Busuttil.
He was born in Queens, New York on November 27, 1929. He graduated Manhattan Aviation High School and served in the Navy Reserve for 5 Years. He also served on active duty in the Army Infantry from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean war. Following his service he graduated Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1958 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. Ultimately, he returned to school and received a Master’s in Engineering from Union College in Schenectady NY. In 1957, he married Dolores Marie Greco and was a devoted and loving husband. She preceded him in death just shy of 55 years married. During their life together they moved to Los Angeles where he worked for North American Aviation. He was assigned design work for the inlets of the massive Mach 3 bomber prototype the XB-70 Valkyrie. Eventually, they returned back East to Schenectady, NY to be closer to family, working for Knolls Atomic Laboratory for a short time. The remainder of his career, about 20 years, was spent working for the DOD at Watervliet Arsenal. Retiring in 1988, he and Dolores enjoyed upstate New York at Lake George and Islamorada, Florida. In 2005 they moved to Surprise Arizona for the remainder of their retirement.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 17, 221 from 4-6 PM with a service Deacon Dave Opsahl presiding at 6:00 PM at Surprise Funeral Care (16063 W. Bell Rd Surprise, AZ 85374.
Graveside Service - Thursday November 18, 2021 at 10:00 AM at National Memorial Cemetery of AZ (23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024).
