Joel was a San Diego native. He is survived by his wife, Catherine E. Schmidt, two children, Joel E Schmidt Jr and Amber M Schmidt, two sisters, Dianne Braden, and Deborah Schmidt, and one brother Tom Schmidt. On the morning of November 30th he lost a long, hard fought battle. He had multiple health issues over the years and faced them head on with an unbreakable, positive spirit. Joel may have appeared to be a tough man, but he was the kindest person, with the biggest heart. He would do anything, for anyone. He was a hard worker, a problem solver and loved helping everyone. His favorite things in life were spending time with his family and then, his friends. He would always love to go for drives and have adventures. For him, the destination didn’t matter, it was about the journey. He always made the journey of life special for all those he loved. His goal was to take care of everyone around him, and he did. He was a person that could fill the room with his personality and was a truly unforgettable man. Joel left a meaningful impression on all those around him. He saw the importance of every day, and lived each day to the fullest.
