Joe Nestor Roybal, 88, passed away on September 11, 2014 in Surprise, AZ. He was born on January 15, 1926 to Nestor and Tillie Roybal in Minturn, CO. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era, and received the Bronze Star. He worked at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as a heating plant engineer for 30 years. He also worked in maintenance for 20 years with Wal-Mart in both Colorado Springs and Surprise. Joe is survived by his beloved wife Shirley I. Roybal; son, Roger Roybal; daughter, Nedra Jenkins and husband Chris Jenkins; granddaughter, Ashley Sarikaya; grandson, Justin Jenkins; sisters, Lena DeHerrera, Susie Zamarripa and Tilly Gonzalez; many nieces and nephews; and canine family members, Pico and Hendrix. Joe is preceded in death by both his parents and his three brothers, Fred, Lalo and George Roybal. The Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Surprise Funeral Care, 16063 W. Bell Rd., Surprise, AZ. The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 19 at Surprise Funeral Care, Surprise. Interment and Military Honors will be at 12:30 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ.
