He was born in the town of Iron River (Bayfield County), Wisconsin to George and Edna Mitchell. He graduated high school as Valedictorian, served in the Army, and graduated from UMN Duluth. Gerald married Delores Nicholson on September 26, 1953, in Ashland, Wisconsin. He had a successful career at IDS American Express for over 47 years. Gerald and Delores retired to Arizona and have enjoyed the warmth of the sun, away from the cold winters of Minnesota.
Professing his life to Christ at an early age, he was a member of the Bloomington Assembly of God Church for many years. Gerald was a kind and soft-spoken man who volunteered many hours at the church, taught adult Sunday school, and always gave of his own time to others. The example he set for his family had his boys well-dressed and in church consistently on a weekly basis.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Delores; his parents George and Edna Mitchell; two brothers, Willis and Willard; and one grandson, Coleman Mitchell.
He is survived by his sons, Richard and his wife Nancy, Mesa Az; Randal and his wife Leslie, Carrollton TX; Ronald and his wife Julie, Raleigh NC; and Roland and his wife Angela, Charlotte NC.
