George Peter Pappas, age 84, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away from cancer Sunday December 6, 2020. George was born in Toledo, Iowa on July 28, 1936. He was the eldest son of Peter and Erma Pappas both of whom preceded him in death.
George is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Raeann Pappas, his daughters Susan Matsey (Skip), Kathy Edwards (Mike), his Brother Jim Pappas (Geri), his Brother-in-Law George Chelovich (Kathy), Sister-in-Law Susan Skog (Dick), five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. His Brother-in-Law Michael Chelovich preceded him in death.
George was a graduate of Gary Edison High School in Gary, Indiana, Class of 1956. He was an excellent high school athlete and a member of the basketball, football and baseball teams. For recreation, he played golf throughout his life and he enjoyed playing Keno at the various casinos in Arizona and in Las Vegas. An avid sports fan, he loved the Chicago Bears, Bulls, White Sox and Cubs. He also followed the family’s younger generations as they competed in their various sports throughout their school years. His dogs were a great joy to him and there was always one or two nipping at his heels for him to spoil and whose company he enjoyed. He was devoted to his current little dog, a spirited Maltipoo named Lexi. They were inseparable. As a young man he worked in sales positions and excelled at them. He later went on to establish a career in Real Estate, both in Indiana and Arizona. At the time of his death, he was still employed at West USA Realty in Peoria, Arizona where he has worked since 1989. In 2014, he was awarded the National Association of Realtors ‘Realtor Emeritus’ designation bestowed in recognition of 40 years of valuable and lasting contribution to the real estate profession. He loved selling and he loved people. He was greatly touched and distressed by the need so many currently have in these troubled times for food as it was an experience he related to from his own childhood. He was gregarious, had a big heart and was quick to laugh and joke. He will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, his clients and his colleagues.
