Donald Stewart Smith of Surprise, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 84. Don was born on January 8, 1940, in New York, where he grew up in Troy. Don later moved to Smithtown, New York, and Northbrook, Illinois, and retired in Surprise.
Don graduated from Lansingburgh High School in New York in 1957, where he excelled at track and participated in the state finals. He was also the principal piano player at school events. Don went on to study at Syracuse University, where he met his wife Marie. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1961, at which time he entered the Marine Corps. Don was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Don worked as a district, regional, and national sales manager at various companies in New York and Illinois.
Don was actively involved in bocce ball in later life and had always had a deep affection for dogs. His hobbies included crossword puzzles, and he enjoyed taking road trips with his wife. Don very much enjoyed his golden years in Arizona.
Don is survived by his wife Marie Smith, son Don Smith, daughter Lisa Lawrence, sister Marilyn Ives, and grandchildren Jack and Sam Lawrence.
