David Opsahl, 19, passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2019 in Surprise, AZ. David Matthew Opsahl was born on October 16, 2000 to Matthew Opsahl and Sylvia Brockway. In 2004, Matthew married Rebecca Foster and she adopted David shortly afterwards. David will always be treasured by Rebecca and Matthew as their precious firstborn son. The Opsahl family lived in Fargo, ND and moved to Arizona when David started 3rd grade.
David had a brilliant mind and graduated with honors from Shadow Ridge High School in 2019 and received a full tuition paid scholarship to NAU, which he was very proud of.
David was athletic and enjoyed participating in sports and other various outdoor activities. Over the years, he played soccer, golf, tennis, diving, baseball, and was in tae kwon do. His favorite thing in the world was to go on week-long snowboarding trips with his dad in Colorado, Utah, and British Columbia. They also had fun at Six Flags amusement park and Dave Matthews Band concerts. David shared many long talks with his mom and she was almost always his first phone call when he had big news - good or bad. His mom truly enjoyed listening to David play piano, especially at Christmastime.
David and his brothers Levi and Lincoln loved playing video games, catch, frisbee, street hockey, and jumping on the trampoline together. David spent many hours playing board games with his mom, dad, cousin Bri, and Grandpa Dave. One of his favorite pastimes was making krumkake at Christmastime at his grandparents' house. He loved to go shopping and shared many sweet and fun memories with his Aunt Kristine and Grandma Karen. He also liked family trips back to ND where he went fishing, tubing and enjoyed time at the lake with the cousins and grandparents on the Foster side.
David was a much loved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend. He was a beautiful, gifted soul who will be forever missed.
His loving family includes his parents, Matthew and Rebecca Opsahl, brothers Levi (12) and Lincoln (8), grandparents Dave and Karen Opsahl and Richard and Kathryn Foster Debertin, special cousin Brianna Heath, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandpa Dick Foster.
