Daniel Michael Chapman was born on November 12, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa and passed away in Surprise, AZ on May 14, 2024 after a short illness. Dan was born to Ward Leon Chapman and Estella Rebecca Bennett Chapman. The family, which included brother James and sister Donna, moved to Tacoma, WA when Dan was two years old. Dan spent his childhood in Tacoma, enjoying time spent playing with his cousin, Richard Bennett. Another sister, Becky, joined the family when Dan was nine years old. Dan graduated from Wilson High School and joined the U.S. Army. He spent the majority of his military time in Germany, where he was injured in an automobile accident that resulted in the loss of his spleen and one kidney. He returned to Tacoma in 1966 where he met his future wife, Nancy Clinton, who he married in 1968. He attended Tacoma Community College, then transferred to Seattle Pacific University, where he graduated with a BA in 1971. He was hired by the City of Seattle Probation Dept. and spent thirty years in that profession. Retiring in 2002, he moved to Surprise, AZ and enjoyed the freedom to golf and do some traveling. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, singing, and playing video games. He is survived by Nancy and their two children: Sheila Danielle Ryan and husband John, and Karla Suzanne Bovee and husband Raymond, three grandchildren, one sister, four brothers-in-law, one nephew, two nieces, and various grand nieces and grand nephews and cousins.
