He was born on September 17, 1948, to Mason and Teckla (Babe) Wilbur, in Hayward, California.
In his younger years, Carl studied at Chabot College and then he began his life as an entrepreneur. He owned and managed two stores, Ace Hi Liquor & Deli, and Ace Hi Deli II, both in Lake County, California. Carl later became a contractor and established Wilbur Mobile Home Services, that he started, then later partnered with his son, Mason K. Wilbur II.
To his children, Patricia A. Wilbur-Diener, Mason K. Wilbur, and Jillian J. Wilbur, Carl was the center of their world. He taught them each the importance of a good work ethic from a very young age. Carl took them on many family trips such as camping, excursions to amusement parks and zoos, and the annual Bodega Bay Wilbur Crab Feed, held for more than fifteen years, was enjoyed by friends and family from all over the state.
Carl loved going to Mexico for fishing, camping, and exploring. His son Mason, many friends, and his beloved wife Carol had all accompanied him over the years.
A life-long Raider Fan, Carl held season tickets for more than thirty years, traveling with his friends, son Mason, and close family friend Rob Gambill, to countless home and away games. Being very charismatic, Carl made friends with the likes of Lyle Alzado, and John Matuszak back in the day, and partied with them after games.
The love of his life was Carol A. Mummert-Wilbur, to whom he was married over thirty years. The two of them traveled, hosted family dinners, and eventually retired and moved from their California home to their dream location of Arizona, living near Mason and his family. They laughed a lot, raised dogs over their many years, and enjoyed morning coffee in the hot tub, and afternoon swims in the pool.
Carl was a lover of music, sports, great food, and appreciated the art of storytelling. He loved movies and read books daily.
To say Carl will be missed is a gross understatement, as this man meant so much to so many. People often joked and called him “The Mayor,” because in Lake County, California, he knew and was loved by so many people.
Carl Blane Wilbur is survived by his wife Carol Mummert-Wilbur, daughter Patti Wilbur-Diener (Charles Diener), son Mason Wilbur (Jessica Wilbur), grandchildren Shane Hodge, Fallon Diener, Emma Diener, Kacie Wilbur, great-grandson Kenyon Hodge, and by his brother Michael Wilbur.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mason and Teckla (Babe) Wilbur, his sister Irene Wilbur-Fagundes, and by his daughter Jillian Wilbur.
