Vera M. Knauer-York

Vera Knauer-York (Hopfe), 91, passed away October 16, 2013 peacefully with her devoted family by her side in Peoria, AZ. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Vera is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Edith Hopfe, brothers, Kenneth Hopfe and Robert Hopfe, sister, Margaret Sherman, husbands, Ed York and Dick Knauer. She is survived by sisters, Shirley Millenacker (Phoenix, AZ), Bev Hargis (Inver Grove Heights, MN and Lois Freeberg-Requa (Austin, MN), son Allen (Adella) Knauer, daughter, Sandra (Tom) Adams, grandchildren, Cyndi, Allana, Troy, Kristi, six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Originally from Austin, MN where she and Dick owned and ran the Riviera Restaurant and Town and Country women’s dress shop, Vera was known for her style and great cooking. She will always be remembered for her genuine smile, her positive outlook on life and her love of people. Sincere thanks to Hospice of the Valley, the staff at Plaza del Rio Care Center and the staff at Encore Assisted Living. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm with funeral starting at 2pm on Tuesday October 22, 2013 at Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
