Ret. Lt Tommy (Tom) Jay Miller, 78, of Sun City AZ, passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Valley, Gardiner Home in Phoenix AZ. He was born in Houston, Texas, to Jack and Vallie (Boyd) Miller. He grew up between Houston and Lake Emily, Minnesota, before enlisting in the US Navy in 1962. He met and married Sharon Reid, and together they had two sons. He served during the Vietnam War on USS Saratoga and eventually settled his family in Key West, Florida, where he retired from the Navy in 1984. Among his many interests were sailing, and racing cars. Tom was often called upon to look after his extended family, by providing sound advice and sometimes providing shelter when necessary. He was a very dedicated son to his mother in her final years. His most recent passion was helping his wife foster 60+ kittens over the past 4 years for a local animal shelter. He truly loved “his kitties”.
He relocated to Westbrook, Maine in 1998, after meeting his loving wife, Victoria Plummer. They married in 2000, and made a great team, restoring and maintaining houses, traveling, and entertaining family and friends.
Along with his wife, he leaves behind his son Matthew and wife Amy of Windham, ME and son Scott of Sun City, AZ, stepdaughter Kristin Murak and her husband Keith, sister Denise Orndorff, brother Jody Miller, brothers-in-law Will Plummer, his wife Amanda Fenton, Steve Plummer, his wife Suzanne Bowen, sister-in-law Jane Plummer and three grandchildren Alex, Nate and Ashleigh Hotham, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Sharon, stepdaughter Lynne Hotham, sister Judith Miller, and brother-in-law Vernon Plummer.
His family thanks Hospice of the Valley, Huger Mercy Living Center and the Alzheimer’s Association for the care and support provided during his courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia.
