The best mother in the world found rest and peace after a long and wonderful life November 9, 2015. A loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother. Her family and a world of friends will miss her smile, laugh and positive outlook on life. Shirley came into this world on August 22, 1923 as the youngest of six children of Per August and Anna Jennette Markuson in Minneapolis, MN. She attended Cooper Elementary School, Sanford J.R. High and Roosevelt H.S. Before the 2nd World War she met Arthur T. Carlson who was her best friend and eventually soul mate. They were married on January 18, 1947 and spent the next 41 years together. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Scott (Marilyn) of Denver, CO, and youngest son Craig (Kathleen) of Phoenix, AZ, her two grandchildren, Jennifer Carlson of Centennial, CO and Kirby Carlson of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the last of the Markuson children and the Carlson side of the family to enter heaven. She was preceded in death by her mother (1948) and father (1960), brothers Clarence, Carl and Stanley, sisters Jean and Edith, and her beloved husband Arthur (1988). Tomorrow will start without Shirley, our mother, grandmother and friend. The sun will rise and then set and life will go on much like it has forever, however, for the people that Shirley touched there will be tears in our eyes but all of us will be so happy that she was a part of our lives. You will be missed and we love you. Arrangements are in the care of Sunland Mortuary of Sun City. A service in celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
