83 years old, Peoria, AZ
Born November 8, 1935 in Manilla, Iowa to Francis and Ruth Holmes (neé Collins), farmers and devout Christians. Sally was one of eleven children in the Holmes family.
Sally continued her life in farming when she married Herman (Holy) Masterson in 1951 and they began their family in Tacna, Arizona, outside of Yuma.
To say she was a strong and determined woman is an understatement. After having their children on the farm, they lost Holy in 1967. With six children, Sally moved her family up to Peoria. That's where she met, fell in love with, and married Bob Locke Sr. Together, they raised their family, adding two more children to their growing brood. With eight children, they almost had a baseball team.
Although known to all as the devoted matriarch of this large family, there was also more to Sally. For one, she loved to bowl. For decades, she played on a league, served as their treasurer, and planned their gatherings and trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas. Sally also loved to dance. In their early years together, Bob and Sally would frequent the country-western haunts in the west Valley with their ever-expanding circle of family and friends. In more recent years, while they no longer went out dancing, it was common to look up at family get togethers and see the two lovebirds dancing, with pure joy in their eyes, as if they were just teenage sweethearts.
The family spent the ‘80s and ‘90s in a labor of love building the cabin in Forest Lakes. Sally and Bob were blessed to spend their retirement years as all Arizonans dream, escaping the summer heat to the cooler temps up north. In Forest Lakes, they enjoyed the peace and fresh air, the company of good friends, and visits from their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
After 83 years of a larger than life presence, Sally was welcomed home on Sunday, June 9th. She was surrounded by her family on both sides of the gate to heaven. Sally’s parents, Ruth and Francis, siblings Mary, Butch, Jimmy, Christine, John, and Charles, as well as Holy, son Ronny, and great granddaughter Amy, were there to usher her home to paradise, where we know she is bowling with the angels and watching the Diamondbacks play, while sipping her Dr. Pepper. She is survived by siblings Betty, Jackie, Connie, and Tommy, her loving husband of 50 years, Bob, their children Herman (Rosemary) Masterson Jr., Sally Kloeppel, Danny (Sherri) Masterson, Tammy Satterlund, Timbo Masterson, Joy Masterson, Bobby (Janine) Jr., and Robin (Steve) Gardner, along with 26 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. It is quite the legacy Sally leaves behind, with her family of 86, and counting.
