Richard W. Arend, 96 years old, of Sun City, Arizona passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2020 with family at his side. He was born on August 30, 1923 on the family farm in Baroda, Michigan to Bertha and Walter Arend. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph, Michigan. He married the former Frances Conrad on August 12, 1943. Around that same time, WWII was in full swing and he was summoned by the U.S. Army and was deployed to the South Pacific where he served out the war. Fran and Dick lived in Baroda, Michigan from 1950 until they retired and moved to Newaygo, Michigan where they lived alongside the Muskegon River. Dick was a residential and industrial electrician retiring from the former Weldun International in Bridgman, Michigan. Dick moved to Sun City to live with his family in 2014.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Frances in 2011, his parents, Walter and Bertha Arend and a sister, Doris Jewell. He is survived by his four sons; Dennis (Carolynn) of Sun City, Arizona, Steven (Lorraine) of Sun City, Arizona, James (Debbie) of Salem, New York and Ronald (Marilyn) of Berrien Center, Michigan, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
