Mary Sue Langley (1936-2011). Sue Langley passed on in Sun City, Arizona on August 6, 2011. Sue graduated from Field Kindley High School (Coffeyville, KS) in 1954, then earned an RN degree from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Tulsa, OK. She married the late Thurman Shaw Langley of Sulfur, OK in 1957. Sue practiced nursing in Ada, OK; Texarkana, TX, Anniston, AL, and Alexandria, VA as Thurman’s career in the US Army Material Command required relocation. The couple retired to Lake Havasu City, AZ in 1970, relocating to the Phoenix area in 1987.
Sue was a believer in the Lord Jesus, and used this strength in faith to support her when blindness from retinitis pigmentosa became a challenge. As a youth, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, and active in the Westminster Fellowship youth group. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sun City, AZ.
Sue’s parents were Everett C. and Maxine Isham Duckworth, long time Coffeyville, KS residents who passed away in 1963 and 1982. Sue is survived by sisters Julia Ann (Judy) Sroufe (Wichita, KS), Sarah Jane (Sally) Love (Caney, KS), and brother Everett Tom Duckworth (Lakeside Village, TX). Other survivors include cousins Jackie Isham Barrett (Coffeyville) and Janet Isham Kilcoyne (Springfield, MO), three nephews, three nieces, and many great-nephews and nieces. Burial will be in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, next to her husband, who died in 1993. A memorial gathering will be held in Sun City and Coffeyville at a later date.
Interment at 1:00 PM Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Veteran Memorial Cemetary of Arizona. Memorial Service at noon, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, 9849 N. 105th Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85351
