Martha Baran

While still young, Martha moved north to Chicago on October 19, 1935. She married Walter F. Baran, a young man from her own hometown. During her marriage she worked in electronics for several Chicago-area companies, at the same time devoting herself tirelessly to being a mother and homemaker.

She and Walter raised two sons; Robert G. and Walter E. Baran.

During her retirement, Martha was active as ever, enjoying ceramics, golf, square dancing with Walter, sewing for the missions, knitting Afghans for her family and growing barrel cactus from seed.

Martha is survived by her sons; Robert G. (Rita) Baran and Walter E. (Maria) Baran, grandchildren; Jeffrey S. and Richard R. Baran, and Marco A. and Marta L. Baran, great-grandchildren; Brittany, Nikki and Stephanie Baran, and Kristi Ore, half-siblings; Fred Gibala, Helen Moore and Elizabeth Zalisko.

"THE BROKEN CHAIN"

We little knew that morning that

God was going to call your name.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death, we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.

You did not go alone.

For part of us went with you,

the day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,

your love is still our guide.

And although we cannot see you,

you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,

and nothing seems the same,

But as God calls us one by one,

the chain will link again.
