John Charles Quigley was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and friend. His love for his family and life didn’t come to an end with his death. John passed away on July 30, 2021, at the age of 89 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, John came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
John was born to Josephine and John Quigley on March 21. 1932 in Waterbury, Connecticut. John and his sister Roberta were well known on the East Coast for their trick riding equestrian abilities. John had a true love for horses and rodeo in his youth. He enlisted in the United States Army at a young age and was assigned to the 2nd infantry division where he very bravely and proudly fought for his country in battle during the Korean War. After honorable discharge in 1954 he completed a full apprenticeship in machine design, rebuilding and repair to become a journeyman machinist. He later retired from Penn Racquet Sports after a long full career as a Project Coordinating Engineer. His hardworking nature did not stop there, in retirement he found a new career path driving a school bus for the Peoria Unified School District where his love for kids and their well being was contagious.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to John. He loved relaxing in his favorite recliner while watching westerns, playing with his grandchildren, working in his extensive garage workshop, and spending quality time with family and close friends. He was a true handyman who could tackle any job. John met the love of his life, Mardell, in Tucson Arizona. They were married for 60 years. Together, they had 2 children: Terry and Melinda.
John loved the Lord and enjoyed serving others through his church community. After moving to Sun City, he and Mardell attended Grace Bible Church where they were longtime members.
