Jewell Thompson, daughter of Fronia and Lester Thompson, was born in Houston, TX on April 26th, 1921. She passed away April 8th, 2016 in Sun City West, AZ. Jewell's lifelong passions were nursing, friendships, and helping others. She graduated from nursing school, New Orleans, LA in December 1942 and was commissioned a 2LT in the Army Nurse Corps in January 1943. She served in France and England supporting the 1944 invasion of Europe. While in France, she married Paul Thompson subsequently making her home in Cozad, Nebraska where she lived for 34 years. Always active in the community, she was a member of Eastern Star, PEO, and taught Sunday School at the Church of Christ. Known for her cheerful personality and ability to relate to children, she was a school nurse for many years. In recognition of her passion for nursing and healthcare, Jewell was inducted into the Cozad Healthcare Hall of fame in 2007. After obtaining her degree in psychology from the University of Nebraska Kearney, she moved to Sun City West, Arizona in 1979 where she worked at Arizona State Hospital until her retirement in 1988. In retirement, Jewell enjoyed her family and friendships gained playing bridge, the Red Hats, swim exercise, and traveling. She continued to volunteer and was named the Sun City West volunteer of the year. She is survived by her son Richard, daughter Dianne, and granddaughter Alison. A celebration of life will be held on April 26th at Chaparral Winds in Surprise, AZ. Her memorial marker will read "Great Mom, Friend, Nurse."
