George was born on May 22, 1933 to Zachary J. Williams and Sadie E. McGinnis Williams in Scranton, PA. He graduated from the University of Scranton with a BS in Social Work, and at Fordham University, received a MSW degree.
His initial service with the United States Public Health Service led to a rank of Lt. Commander (04) from 1965-67. He continued in Public Health Service for a total of 31 years. He served in Scranton, Pa, Milwaukee, WI, and Fresno, CA before transferring to Stone Mountain, GA in 1969 as Community Health Care Administrator.
George was an active member of the Choir at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Stone Mountain, GA. before moving to Johns Creek in 2015 where he became a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Johns Creek, GA. George and Cathy moved to Goodyear, AZ in February 2022.
George is survived by his beloved wife Catherine WIlliams, a dear friend of nine years, who became his soul-mate in 2019. He is also survived by three children-Mark (Valerie) Williams of Clinton, TN; Gary (Melissa) Williams of Johns Creek, GA; and Paul (Millie) Williams of Clinton, TN, his brother, Terry (Linda) of Reno, NV, two step-children- Paul (Martha) Giza of Peoria, AZ and Anne M. Giza of Glendale, AZ, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 52 years, Frances Ann Stanvitch in 2007, his wife of 82 days, Linda Bullock Gunn in 2011 and his sister Roseanne Brown in 2022.
Father Paul Flood will conduct the Memorial Mass at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Johns Creek, GA 30097 on April 27, 2024 at 11:00AM. Following the Mass, interment will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery & Mausoleum in Roswell, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society in memory of George.
