Faylene Lucille Sauers Dinn (Faye) was a native of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; born on December 23, 1922 she was the last of 4 children. She was the daughter of the late Elsie Mae Benfer and Willard Herman Sauers who were well know farmers in Lewisburg. Her father was elected and served as the Commissioner of Union County, Pennsylvania for many years.
At an early age, Faye revealed a keen aptitude for learning and completed the first 4 grades of school in only 2 years. She was an avid reader and most conscientious in everything she did. She learned how to play the piano without a teacher. She played totally by ear anything she heard in many different major and minor keys. It is believed she may have had "perfect pitch" that is exceedingly rare. Mozart had perfect pitch, but even among the greatest musicians, like Beethoven, most did not have this gift!
She entered Lewisburg High School at the age of only 12, graduating summa cum laude as a Latin and Physics scholar. She earned a scholarship to attend secretarial and business college and went on to serve in Washington, D.C. as a federal secretary during World War II until she met the love of her life in 1947, the late William R. Dinn, who served the U.S. Navy in the 1940's and 1950's on the U.S.S. Benham Destroyer in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean War.
Faye and her husband had a fervent love of music and dancing. They enrolled in the famous Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Washington, D.C. and became superb ballroom dancers, learning most of the main genres of dance. They especially loved contemporary dances and the popular music of the 30's, 40's, and 50's.
Faye Dinn passed on her love of music and dance to her two children by enrolling them in piano lessons, dance lessons (especially tap dancing), and clarinet lessons. Both of her children won scholarships and prizes in music competitions. She inspired her two children to learn by playing and teaching them how to begin from a very early age.
She had extraordinary patience and believed that the two greatest gifts you can pass on to your children are your time and the truth. She was an outstanding listener and counselor. The one thing she would not tolerate was false witness. She was kind, compassionate, modest, encouraging, and a devout Christian, wife, and mother.
She is survived by her two children, Gary W. Dinn and Diane L. Ledford, her two grandchildren, Keila D. Krening and Karla M. Worf, and her two great-grandchildren, Brodan Worf and Kailey Worf.
