Ethel Bernice Rose, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2020 in Glendale, Arizona surrounded by her loving family members. Ethel, who was known to her family and close friends as Bernice, was born September 14, 1925, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to George and Martha Clay. She was the beloved wife of Daniel Rose for over 70 years.
She grew up in Wyandotte and Allen Park, Mi. As a young girl, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior after hearing a missionary speak. She was a faithful Christian right up to her death. Although Bernice worked at J L Hudson’s in Detroit before she was married, she lovingly chose to be a homemaker and stay-at-home mother to her four children.
She and Dan made their home in Lincoln Park, MI for 30 years, where they raised their family. She was a devout student of the Word of God and after her father passed on, Bernice assumed his role as teacher of the Bible study class at her church. She dearly loved God and His Word. She faithfully began every day in the Word and prayed for her family, friends, and whoever the Lord placed on her heart. She enjoyed knitting, and creating quilts for her grandchildren, and various other crafts.
In 1981, she and Dan relocated to Sun City, AZ where they eventually retired. Even though she was many miles away from much of her family, Bernice was always available to support and encourage them. Bernice and Dan were devout members of the Assemblies of God denomination in Michigan as well as Arizona.
Bernice was the mother of 4 children: Colleen (John) Stokes, Kevin (Leslie) Rose, Dr Scott (Renee) Rose, and Jennifer (Robert) Chelpka. She was Grandma, to her 8 grandchildren: Christopher Stokes, Kimberly Presby, Sara Heilig, Amy Santa, Sabrina Nelsen, Victoria Rose, Laura Budwill, and Joshua Chelpka. In addition, 15 great grandchildren; called her Great Grandma. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
