Deena Joyce Cigoy (known as NeNe to her grandchildren) passed away peacefully on June 19, 2014. She was born July 6, 1936 in Cleveland, OH to Albert and Doris Bohn. Deena is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William Cigoy. Deena was the oldest of three children and is survived by her brother Gary Bohn (Mardi) of Plano, TX and her sister Karen Anzelc (Jack) of Peoria, AZ. She also leaves behind her son Mitchell Cigoy (Rodney Jenkins) of Canon City, CO, her daughter Jody Toohy (Gary) of Peoria, AZ, her daughter Penny Kopeke (Dave) of Scottsdale, AZ and their children, Will and Vivienne, who will miss their NeNe very much.
Deena lived in and around the Cleveland, Ohio area prior to moving to Phoenix in 1984. She had a flair for fashion and worked with her mother in the family owned dress shop in Chagrin Falls, OH from 1960 to 1967. In the early 1980's, Deena worked at North Olmsted City Hall. Deena also had a passion for working with children, devoting many hours of volunteer work tutoring young children. She was also a house mother at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Bowling Green State University from 1988 to 1990. Deena was a fantastic cook who always had room at the table for one extra person. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and "second mom" to scores of her children's friends. Her ability to meet people and become a trusted friend was second to none. In the late 90's Deena and her husband became private investigators for an insurance agency. In the early 2000's Deena was actively involved with the Ventana Lakes Property Homeowner's Association. She performed in the community variety shows singing and dancing. A celebration of Deena's life will be held at a later date. Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Valley,1510 E.
