Clifford F. Wruck of Peoria AZ left this world on July 29th and has “gone fishing”. He was Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend to many. He was born to the late Albert & Viola Wruck on August 24, 1919, the youngest of three sons. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, DeWayne and Donald. He was born on the Lawsonia Estate in Green Lake, WI. Cliff greatly enjoyed the many outdoor actives available on the 1800 acres of the Estate while growing up with his brother DeWayne.
He graduated from Green Lake High School in 1937. Enlisting in military service in 1937 he honorably served in the Army, Army Air Corps and the Air Force. He married his beautiful loving wife and soul mate Dorothy E. Hanley on June 28, 1941 in Americus, GA and they have greatly enjoyed life together for over 71 years.
In the Military, Cliff held numerous positions and duty assignments in both the States and abroad. During his military career he served in primarily logistical support from unit level to Divisional Staff. He also served in a number of assignments as an Instructor for Enlisted and Officer Education for both U.S. and Allied Forces.
During WWII, Cliff served the nation in China, Burma and India as a member of the 2nd Squadron, 75th Fighter Group, 14th Air Force (Flying Tigers). He retired at the highest enlisted rank obtainable from the Air Force in 1958. He continued to serve the nation in the reserves until 1967.
During April of this year he greatly enjoyed his participation in Freedom Honor Flight, a three day trip honoring America’s WWII’s Heroes with a trip to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII monument and other significant points of interest in and around the Nation’s Capital.
After his distinguished Military Career he worked for both Stressan-Routers Chemical and the United States Post Office. Concentrating his work efforts in the Post Office he worked his way up through the organization retiring as the Postmaster of Bensenville, IL in 1975.
Cliff was active in volunteer organizations for many years and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a Lions Club member; a Melvin Jones award recipient, and a Mason. He was a quiet and avid lifelong supporter of Schools for under privileged children. He was an active member serving in various positions of the United Church formerly of Bensenville IL and later of Sun City.
He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed golf. As the pillar of the family, his advice, love, and support will be greatly missed by the many family and friends that were graced with his presence over the years.
Cliff is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Dorothy, four children, Dianne (Robert A.) Balow of Albuquerque, N.M., Wayne (Mary) of French Village, MO., Connie (Patrick) Sherwin of Suffolk, VA., Danny (Michelle) of La Crosse, WI; 10 grandchildren – Timothy Wruck, Susan Wruck, Mahurin, Jason Wruck, David Wruck, Brian Sherwin, Catherine Sherwin Ilich, Daniel Sherwin, Bradley Wruck, Lisa Wruck Corbett, and Kevin Wruck; 12 great-grandchildren – Alexandria Wruck, Tyler Wruck, Andrew DeClue, Christian DeClue, Jillian Wruck, Johnathan Wruck, Isabelle Wruck, Luca Wruck, Zachary Ilich, Samantha Ilich, Riley Corbett, and Camdon Corbett.
