He was born February 4, 1918, to John C. and Lucie H. (Buehler) Schaefer in Parker, South Dakota.
He married his wonderful wife, JoEva M. Bauman, on October 9, 1942, a cool, fall day in Dell Rapids, SD. They have been blessed with five children during the seventy years of their adventure. His farm in South Dakota was the homestead of his pioneering grandfather and parents. He also found time to work for Old Home Bread Co., Midwest Coast Trucking, and Parker School District as a bus driver. He was a member of the Parker Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing with the choir. His other affiliations were the Parker Masonic Lodge #30 and St. Cecelia Chapter
#66 Order of the Eastern Star. He was Commodore of the Parker Boat Club when it was instituted. A life pleasure was the memory of good times at South Dakota lakes pulling acrobatic water skiers.
Chris and JoEva moved to Sun City in 1976 for health reasons and to enjoy the warmer weather. He worked about 15 years as a golf cart mechanic for Pohle NV Center and Del Webb Golf Courses of Sun City West before beginning his retirement. They especially enjoyed using the RV for travel to see family and friends around the US. Chris always appreciated a good game of cribbage.
After joining Lakeview Methodist Church of Sun City he assisted with the Men's Club events for many years. He was a charter member of the Sun City Chapter #66 Order of the Eastern Star. Chris was recently presented with his 70th anniversary pin by the Sun City Masonic Lodge #72 on behalf of the Parker Lodge.
Chris is survived by his adoring wife, JoEva; his sons, George (Hazel) of Shoshoni, WY and Fred (Dorthea) of Sioux Falls, SD; and his daughters, Barbara (Glenn) DeMent of Las Vegas, NV, Diana Esterly of Tacoma, WA and Lucy (Jeff) Thomas of Albuquerque, NM, plus 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Chris was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. Celebration of Life services for Chris Schaefer will be held at the Lakeview Methodist Church, 10298 W. Thunderbird Blvd., Sun City, on January 26, 2013, at 2:00pm.
