Barbara S. Allen

Barbara led a happy, active life filled with family, church, travel, needlework and reading. Sharing friendships and humor were her signatures.

Barbara Nancy Swink was born in Rocky Ford, CO and lived in Texas and New Jersey as a child. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass College) in New Brunswick and earned a Bachelor of Christian Education degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. Barbara was active in Christian education and women’s ministries and was a longtime member of P.E.O. For over 25 years she led a vibrant craft group supporting the Royal Oaks Retirement Community in Sun City.

Barbara married the Reverend Carlton Allen and together they served Presbyterian churches and schools in Texas, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico and Arizona. Barbara and Carlton lovingly raised two sons, Carlton and John, and delighted in grandchildren Ruth, Joan, Jennifer and Joshua as well as great-granddaughter Elizabeth. Barbara created a loving home wherever she lived, and made lasting friendships throughout her life.
