Austin....the "Quiet Marine"; knew him from Pischke's, and beyond. His talent was matched by his service to his country in Viet Nam. I trust his spirit is at rest with the souls of fellow Marines....safely rest, Austin....safely rest.

I just learned of Austin's passing. It is now September 2022 so I'm nine months late sending my heartfelt sympathy to his sons and daughter, and to all his family and to all who loved him. I knew him and have a painting of his on my wall that I cherish. He gave it to me as a gift when I lived in California. I once worked for his dad who was a great mentor to me.  I was his typesetter and that was where I first met Austin in 1984. He was such a wonderful human being with talents that can't be measured in words alone. He was unmatched in his artistic abilities, his sculpting, his writing of his experiences, and much more. He loved his children and his parents and his many, many friends. I am thankful that I knew him.

The General Patton Museum send their sympathies and prayers to the Deuel family.  He was one of the good guys .   His heroic size state of General Patton sets the tone of the museum in front of the entrance.

I cherish the memories of times spent with Austin in Alaska.  I will always remember his sense of humor, his outdoor skills, the hilarious adventures we all had aboard Bob White's boat - "Seacomber".  While he was certainly a man's man, his gentle ways endeared him to everyone.  He will be remembered with a smile and greatly missed.  


He was a Marine. I appreciate his service and the sacrifices he gave. I trust his soul rests with thousands of other  Marines. Semper Fi, Austin....

Austin was my friend for so many years in Scottsdale.  We were a part of the Breakfast Group that met on Thursdays.  He had a kind and loving soul and that can be seen in his paintings and sculptures.  It was an honor to be a part of Austin’s life.  His daughter-in-law posed for me many times during my years in the desert.  Austin always gave me such incredible advice as a painter.  I cherish my moments with him.  He has a special place in my heart —- forever!  Diane Leonard

Sorry for your loss, your father was a close family friend of our family for over forty years and the memories at the VFW  with him are priceless. I assure you he is at the VFW in heaven with my parents smiling and telling stories as only he could.  My thoughts and prayers are with you. Kerrye Mosley

Austin was Commander at our VFW Post 3513 in Scottsdale, Arizona, at least four times. He was our inspiration as a veteran, as an artist, and as a friend. He will be remembered for many years to come as one of the most beloved members of our Post family. We send our condolences to his many friends and family and will treasure his memory always.
