Alta “Jane” Wiseman, 99, passed away on May 22, 2021, at Friendship Village in Tempe. Jane was born in Stanberry, Missouri, on December 10, 1921, to Ernest and Lena Phillips Jones. She grew up in Stanberry, graduated from high school there, and attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, Missouri. During the World War II, she moved to Washington, DC and later back to Kansas City, Missouri. There she met the love of her life Harold C. “Hal” Wiseman, Jr., whom she married on February 14, 1948. They lived in Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska before moving their family to Phoenix in 1960. Jane retired from Maricopa County Community College District in 1983, and she and Hal moved to Sun City. They enjoyed their cabin in Munds Park and traveling with many friends in the Sun City RV Travel Club. Following Hal's passing in 2005, Jane moved to The Forum at Desert Harbor, where she lived for 10 years, and has resided at Friendship Village Tempe for the past 5 years.
In addition to Hal, Jane was predeceased by her parents, her brother Dr. Max P. Jones and sister Elizabeth Lattimer. She is survived by her 3 children: Jane Benedict (John), Tempe; Thomas Wiseman (Karen), Dallas, TX; and Philip Wiseman (Jenny) of Monte Sereno, CA; her 6 granddaughters: Jaime Grassi Winston (Richard), Colleyville, TX; Julie Benedict (fiancé Matt Shearer), Gold Canyon; Dr. Kelly Benedict (Dr. Vince De Marco), Paradise Valley; Sara Kennedy (Jeremy), Springdale, AR; Alexandra Wiseman, Fort Worth, TX; and Annie Wiseman (fiancé James Pinto), Reno, NV; her 7 great grandchildren: Bryce and Tyler Grassi; Everett, Blair and Margo Kennedy; and Derek and Dylan De Marco; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor our beloved mother and grandmother will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 3 PM at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Friendship Village Tempe, Employee Appreciation Fund, c/o Brittany Mendoza, 2645 E. Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ 85282 will be appreciated.
