There will be a memorial for Aaron Reed on Saturday March 21st at 1 pm, at 
"Station House 726", 
426 W Meridian, in Puyallup.  
Everyone is welcome to attend!

Many years ago Aaron and my husband Ed McKinney (who passed in 2005) became volunteers together at Dist #40 as our boys played together. Now they have both answered their final fire alarm call.

Aaron was the nicest Chief I ever worked for. He treated all of us as though we were part of his family. Once a citizen dropped off a bottle of whiskey at Station 42 as a thank you, Aaron allowed us to share it with him in his hot tub (after work).

When I met Aaron. I was18 years Old and  Steve Smith and I became Volunteer Firefighters  He taught Me A lot.......

I went on to be come A Seattle Firefighter for 33 years.

I remember the way Aaron was able to be a dignified Fire Chief to his dedicated men, and also a good friend to all the rest of us.  He could walk that tightrope with ease.  He was very supportive of the community safety programs the Firebelles instituted and he seemed to be a born leader for everything else.  There were the many Fire Dept garage sales to earn funds for additional equipment, the public bingo games in the fire station truck bays, (until the state shut us down for gambling)!  Then there were the Christmas tree sales, the awards banquets, and the practice house fires (when it was the preferred method to raze a house, instead of disassembling it)!  Most of all, I remember a warm and caring person, a family man and an inspiration to all of us.  He will be missed by everyone he touched with his helpful wisdom and caring insight. Hail to the Chief!

Ahhhhhthe good old days.  I can still remember the first day I stepped into the fire station at Benson & Petrovitsky Road to find out what volunteering was all about.  Aaron Reed and Jerry Fairfield met me at the door, gave me an application, fitted me for bunker gear.and two hours later, without any training, I was on the back of a fire engine headed to a brush fire.  The rest is History!   The stories & times we shared were outstanding!!  From training, fighting fire. to baseball, bake sales, bingo, poker, garage sales, dances, selling Christmas trees.and the parties.. we know what you're doing.and then the three shows every night.5, 9 & 12.and now we have lovely Mary. These were special times where volunteers were family.  If you needed something.. anything..volunteers would come running to help.  And the Firebelles.  Always there with coffee and doughnuts on cold nights.  Using CB's to navigate the volunteers to the incident.  Keeping your window open at night so that you could hear the station siren.   Yes..those were the times. And Aaron was the leader and mentor of many, many firefighters both as volunteers and career firefighters as well.  Rest in Peace O Brave One, and thanks for the memories and your dedicated service.

Aaron was one of the many friends I made at Dist. 40.  He had a down to earth attitude and always willing to talk with you.  He also had a wicked sense of humor.  I have fond memories of my time there.

What I remember most is the get togethers after the baseball games for the fire dept at Phil Arnold Park.  I think of those days everytime I'm in that area.  Rest in peace Aaron and say hi to dad for me.

In the Fire Service Dist. 40 was like a Father I never had. God Bless him. Dave
