March 8, 1925 – February 19, 2018
Carol Eugenia Stahl (nee Kluge) went peacefully into her Lord and Savior’s presence on February 19, 2018. She had lived in Wilmington, DE since 2005, moving from Lakeland FL where she and her husband Herbert had retired in 1987. Having married on May 7, 1949, Carol and Herb raised all 5 of their children in Broomall, PA in the next township west of where she herself was raised in the Brookline area of Havertown. She was born in Bryn Mawr Hospital on March 8, 1925.
Carol was full of energy and smiles for everyone throughout her life. An avid student and hard worker, she became the first senior service Girl Scout in Delaware County. Upon graduating from Haverford High in 1943, she received a scholarship to Taylor Business College in Philadelphia, leading to varied employment as a secretary, receptionist, and customer service representative.
She lovingly poured her solid godly values, patriotism, pursuit of excellence and achievement, and her devotion to Jesus Christ into her children, helping to support their activities and education as much as possible. All four sons became Eagle Scouts and their daughter earned a doctorate in Mathematics. All five children continue to love and serve the Lord in their various stations in life, each raising their own families in the fellowship of the Church.
Carol spent much time in private with Christ, reading her daily devotionals, the Bible, and in prayer for her family, her church, and the worldwide outreach of the Church. She taught children’s Sunday school for over 50 years, involved herself in women’s ministry in every church she was a member, served as evangelism chairman at her church in Florida, and led a small Bible study group in her home there as well. She was active in service in her retirement community of Angler’s Cove West and tutored international students in reading.
Her hobbies were multi-faceted: singing with the family and in several church choirs through the years as well as playing piano; swimming; playing games with friends and family, Pinochle being her favorite; socializing around Rummikub competition with friends; enjoying the challenge of newspaper Jumbles and word games; and reading books with particular interest in the American Civil War.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Harold A. Kluge and Florence E. Kluge of Havertown, PA, her brother H. Alvin Kluge of Michigan, and her husband Herbert L. Stahl of Lakeland, FL. She is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Russell and Karen Stahl of Wilmington, DE; John and Sandy Stahl of Wilmington, DE; Albert and Lynne Stahl of Algeciras, Spain; Bruce and Barbara Stahl of Chesterfield, MO; and Linda and Tim Burks of Palo Alto, CA. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1006 Wilson Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803. Family will meet guests both at 1:30 prior to the service and after.
Interment will be next to her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
