She was born July 13, 1941, in Sulphur to Wilton John and Sarah Olsen Meyers. Wynona spent many of her formative years Corpus Christi, Texas, but her family returned to Sulphur and she graduated from Sulphur High School in 1959. In 1962 she married Phillip “Bud” Lyons, Sr., also of Sulphur. Later that year, she had a son, Phillip Lyons, Jr. In 1970, she had a second son, Wilton Lyons, Sr.
She later married Foster Ambler with whom she resided in Carlyss until his passing in 1994. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to Foster and other family members, including her mother Sarah “Lena” Meyers and sisters Patra “Ann” Boullion Worley and Sarah Murdoch, all of whom preceded her in death, as did her sister Mary Arendt.
Mrs. Ambler is survived by her brother, Wilton “Andy” Meyers and his spouse, Janet; her sister, Madelyn Levy and her spouse, Richard; sons, Wilton Lyons, and Phillip Lyons and his spouse, Eric Bennett; granddaughter, Samantha Lyons and grandsons, Wilton Lyons II and Logan Bennett-Lyons; honorary grandson, Jorge Castro; honorary granddaughter, Jessica Gonzalez; honorary great-grandson, Payden Castro; Godmother, Eva Mooney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 23, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dutch Cove Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
