Willie Ellender, 72, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in a local hospital surrounded by his family. Willie was a lifelong Sulphur resident and a retired home builder. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Floella Ellender; children, Tammy Hawn and her husband Darren of Pineville, Kathy Yellott and her companion Jody Angelle; Debbie Savant and her companion Maylan; and Eric Ellender and his wife Tammie Evans of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Michelle Guidry, Chad Yellott, Nicole Hawn, Michael Paul Guidry, Justin Hawn and Krystal Savant; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Russell Ellender; mother, Elma Ellender; and brother, Tommy Joe Ellender.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 10, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Huhn, M.S. will officiate. Interment will follow in Farquhar Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5—8 p.m. Thursday in Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home and resume on Friday at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
