She was born and raised in Wister, Oklahoma and had been a resident of Sulphur for over 65 years. Wanda retired as a librarian with the Calcasieu Parish Public Library, Sulphur Branch. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Rhodes and friend, Debra LeLeux, and Don Rhodes and wife, Sallye, all of Sulphur, and Gail Rhodes Driver and husband, Paul of Lewiston, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Jinnifer L. Marcantel and husband, Nely, Ronnie Rhodes, and Blake Rhodes, all of Sulphur, Sky Driver and wife, Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri, Shay Driver of Lewiston, Idaho, Benjamin Rhodes of Metairie, and Hudson Rhodes and wife, Jessica of Romeoville, Illinois; and five great-grandchildren, Brittney LeBlanc, Brooklyn LeBlanc, Summer Marcantel, Keelan Rhodes, and Damon Driver. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hilyard Hudson "Dusty" Rhodes; her parents, Grover and Bonnie Thompson; daughter-in-law, Deborah Vincent Rhodes; siblings, Madeline Orms, Murrell Morris, and Cleve Thompson; grandson, Ian Driver; and grandson-in-law, Michael LeBlanc.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Kratzer will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home.
