Verna Mae Phillips

Verna was a lifetime resident of Vinton/Sulphur Area. She was a longtime member of the Community Christian Church. She enjoyed playing bingo and card games with anyone who wanted to play.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary J. Cormier of Sulphur, and Ellen J. Shoemake and husband, Thomas of Sulphur; a son, Donald Higginbotham and wife, Karen of Longville; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Higginbotham Gauither, a son, Ronald Higginbotham, parents, Amile and Effie Cormier; five sisters, and one brother.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Chapel. Rev. Roland Hebert will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien/Highland Memorial Park in Lake Charles. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
