Our mother was an angel on Earth, and the sweetest lady you would ever want to know. She inspired us, counseled us, and loved us unconditionally. We treasure the value of our mother's love and the enormous depth of her commitment. All that we are, we owe to our mother.
Sulphur- Shirley Marie Cormier, 75, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, in a local hospital.
She was a native of Mermentau and had been a resident of Sulphur for 57 years, coming from Pine Island. Shirley lived life to it's fullest and often enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, watching tv, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Caffery Cormier of Sulphur; four children, Kenneth Cormier of Mermentau, Carolyn Cormier of Baton Rouge, Patrick Cormier of Saudi Arabia, and Carlton Cormier and wife, Ruela of Sulphur; her two sisters, Consula Woods and Ella Pousson, both of Gueydan; and her three grandchildren, Kenneth Cormier Jr., Matthew Berthelot, and Taylor Cormier.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, in Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church. Deacon Johnny Mounce' will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is from 1-8 p.m. Monday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
