Bob was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 in 1943 alongside his three brothers: Bill, Jim and Charley. Bob served his country as a Signalman Third Class aboard PT Boats in the South Pacific and saw combat many times. Honorably discharged the 29th of March 1946, and later attended the University of Hawaii as a photography major. After leaving the Navy he moved to Lake Charles, where he met his wife, Chandis Marilyn Thomas, on a blind date set up by his brother Jim. Bob and Chandis were married June 5th, 1948. Their blessed marriage of 62 years produced 7 children: Pat, Lorraine, Karen, Mike, Tim, Danny and Sändra. This group gave Bob 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Some say Chandis had to raise 8 children as it was often hard to tell that Bob was not one of the kids. Bob worked and retired from Sears & Roebuck after 26 years where he achieved top salesman awards countless times. After retiring from Sears, he moved his gang to the Buna area where they became members of the First United Methodist Church of Buna. Later Bob bought Vidor’s Rockwood Tractor in 1985. He thoroughly enjoyed his tractor business because there he developed a long list of great friends. He later retired from Rockwood Tractor in 2001 after winning Top Dealership in Texas on several occasions. Years later, Bob and Chandis moved to Sulphur, LA. He was somebody who embraced life to the fullest and truly lived his own motto “Have a good time everyday”.
Bob now rests in Heaven with his loving daughter Lorraine Chandis Rugg, and his two brothers William Henry Hudson & Charles Kenneth Hudson.
