She was a native of Boyce and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1960, moving from Fort Worth, Texas. Peggy worked as a teacher with R.W. Vincent for many years and then went on to work in specialized pupil appraisal with the Calcasieu Parish School Board until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and sewing.
Survivors include her daughters, Tammie Gafford and husband, John Scott of Sulphur and Patricia Gafford of Carrollton, Texas; a brother, Johnny Hastings and wife, Paula of Grand Prairie, Texas; and her faithful dog, Rosie. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jon Mack Gafford; her parents, Earnest and Ella Mae Hastings; her siblings, Ted Hastings, Eugene Hastings, Murrell Hastings, and Vera Camburn; and her beloved dog, Heidi.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 16, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Blocker will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jody George and his staff, Dr. Mohammed Khan and his staff, West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, APTC (Ambulatory Preadmissions Treatment Center) cancer care nurses, and Sage Oak Memory Care Center House 4 staff for their personal and heartfelt care of Peggy.
